Sorrow As Malawi Govt Issues Statements On Plane That Just Crashed With Vice President, 9 Other Officials

Malawi is gripped with worry as its Vice President, Saulos Chilima, remains missing along with nine others after their plane disappeared on Monday, June 10.

The helicopter carrying Vice President Chilima failed to land as scheduled at Mzuzu International Airport, sparking a massive search and rescue operation.

President Lazarus Chakwera has assured the nation that every possible effort is being made to locate the missing aircraft.

In a press address, President Chakwera expressed his heartfelt concern and pledged to continue the search until the plane and its passengers are found.

"I know that we are all frightened and concerned - I too am concerned. But I want to assure you that I am sparing no available resource to find that plane and I am holding onto every fibre of hope that we will find survivors," President Chakwera stated.

The president revealed that foreign countries, including the US, have offered military aircraft to assist in the search and rescue efforts.

Soldiers on the ground are tirelessly working to locate the missing plane, following the strict orders from President Chakwera to continue the operation until a resolution is reached.

The incident has not only caused anguish among the citizens of Malawi but has also affected the presidential schedule, with President Chakwera canceling his planned flight to the Bahamas.

According to reports from the president's office, the Malawi Defence Force aircraft vanished from radar after departing from the capital city, Lilongwe.

Despite extensive efforts, communication with the aircraft could not be established, leading to the launch of a comprehensive search and rescue mission.

The missing Vice President Chilima was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 am local time, but the aircraft failed to arrive, raising concerns about its whereabouts.
