Help This Single Mum & Her 2 Kids Who Were Locked Out Of Their Rental House in Kapsabet, They Slept in a Garden Near Kapsabet Police Station

As housing demand in Kenyan urban areas reaches tipping point, rent-default cases with ugly conflicts pitting landlords against hapless tenants are on the increase.

A woman was on Thursday evening locked out of her single room house with her 2 kids over alleged rent arrears in Kapsabet.

The people who put a padlock on his house, obviously acting at the behest of the landlord, also carted away his valuable household goods like television, sofa set, wardrobe, fridge, computer and just about everything else they could carry.

Despite her plea to be allowed more time to sell her household and the agent welded the door closed, leaving her without food or exit to answer to call of nature.

Unlike what most tenants think, one can indeed be taken to a court of law on account of defaulting on house rent, the consequences of which could be grave as the tenant could be required to pay the rent arrears in default, plus the full cost of litigation.

She is unable to raise her rent because her business was adversely affected since March, when the first Covid-19 case was reported in the country.
