In a shocking incident in Busabala Parish, Superintendent of Police Frederick Baguma was violently attacked by armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28. The attack happened around 3 a.m. while Baguma was asleep in his home.
The robbers, targeting high-value items, managed to break into Baguma's residence undetected. They stole a flat-screen TV and a bag reportedly containing Ksh 240 million.
However, their actions did not stop at theft. The intruders also inflicted injuries on Superintendent Baguma before fleeing the scene.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Luke Owoyesigyire provided more details about the incident.
He explained how the assailants gained access to Baguma's home during the night, making off with valuable items and causing harm to the officer.
"The assailants gained access to the officer's home during the night. They stole a flat-screen television and a bag containing an unspecified amount of money before injuring the victim," Owoyesigyire stated.
Following the attack, the police launched an immediate investigation. The canine unit played a crucial role in tracking down the suspects.
Thanks to the efforts of the detectives and the canine unit, four suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. Despite the arrests, the stolen items have not yet been recovered.
Owoyesigyire emphasized that recovering the stolen property is now a top priority for the police. "With the help of the canine unit, our detectives were able to locate and arrest the suspects.
However, they have not yet revealed the location of the stolen items. Recovering the stolen property is now our primary focus," he said.
Superintendent Baguma is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries. His condition is being monitored, and he is expected to recover fully.
This attack on a high-ranking police officer highlights a troubling trend in Uganda, where there has been a surge in gang-related assaults targeting both homes and public places.
The recent increase in such crimes has put residents and authorities on high alert.
In another recent incident, three police officers in Mlolongo, Machakos County, were attacked by robbers while trying to rescue a woman near a bank.
The robbers were caught in the act of stealing and engaged the police in a confrontation. Fortunately, the officers managed to overpower the robbers and arrest them.
